Banh mi shop that poisoned 86 people suspended for four months

Hong Ngoc 12 banh mi shop in Hong Ngu ward fined 90 million dong and suspended for four months following an incident that sickened 86 people.

The Chairman of Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee issued a decision requiring the establishment owner to cover all costs for incident resolution, examination, and treatment for those affected by food poisoning, totaling approximately 175 million dong.

On 23/2, numerous customers who consumed pork banh mi at the shop began experiencing symptoms such as stomach aches, diarrhea, and vomiting. The number of cases rose to 86, with no fatalities reported.

This marks the second time the establishment has caused food poisoning. In 8/2024, the shop affected 149 people, resulting in a similar penalty. Compensation costs at that time were approximately 380 million dong.

Hong Ngoc is a banh mi brand with over 100 establishments across the Mekong Delta. In Dong Thap province alone, it operates numerous locations in Hong Ngu, Sa Dec, Cao Lanh, and Thanh Binh.
