The incident occurred at approximately 11:00 on 19/2. Nguyen Van Tam, residing in Tan Hoa village, Tuyen Binh commune, piloted a boat carrying his wife, Cao Thi Nghia, his daughter-in-law Nguyen Thi Bich Ha, and her four children: Nguyen Diem Chinh, 14; Nguyen Duy Khanh, 12; Nguyen Tan Phat, 10; and Nguyen An Nhien, 3.

They were crossing the Gianh River to Lac Son village, Tuyen Hoa commune, to visit and offer New Year greetings. When about 30 meters from the shore, the boat suddenly sank. Ms. Ha, Khanh, and Phat were rescued by Cao Huu Tinh, 48, and his two children from Tan Giang commune. Ms. Nghia and An Nhien were brought ashore for emergency aid but later died.

Tam and Chinh went missing following the capsizing. Over the past day, more than 100 people, including police, military personnel, and residents, conducted search operations for the two missing individuals.
