Van Don special administrative zone authorities announced on the evening of 9/7 that divers located a victim's body in the cabin of a cargo ship that capsized in Ban Sen waters. Rescue teams are clearing the submerged section of the vessel to gain access to the remaining person.

The incident occurred around 14:00 on the same day when a 1,880-ton sand cargo ship, captained by Vu Thanh Long, 53, from Dai Nang ward, Hai Phong City, struck a rock shoal and capsized. The vessel was en route from the Tan Lap sand mine in Van Don special administrative zone, Quang Ninh province, to Vu Yen, Hai Phong City.
At the time of the accident, 5 people were on board. Captain Long and two crew members, Bui Van Nho and Nguyen Van Cuong, were rescued and transported to Van Don Regional General Hospital for emergency treatment.
The two individuals trapped in the cabin were brothers Truong Van Phuong, 53, and Truong Van Hanh, 48, both also residents of Dai Nang ward, Hai Phong City.

Following the distress call, Quang Ninh Provincial Border Guard, Quang Ninh Provincial Police, and search and rescue forces rapidly deployed personnel and equipment to the scene. Additionally, 5 fishing boats from nearby areas were mobilized to assist in the operation.
At the site, the 1,880-ton cargo ship remains capsized, with about half of its hull visible above the water. Authorities continue their search for the remaining missing person.
