Ship capsizes off Van Don coast, two people trapped

A cargo ship overturned in the Ban Sen sea area of Van Don Special Economic Zone, trapping two people in the cabin while three others were rescued on the afternoon of 9/7.

Around 2 PM on 9/7, a cargo ship captained by Vu Thanh Long, 53, from Dai Nang ward, Hai Phong city, capsized in the Ban Sen sea area. Five people were on board.

The People's Committee of Van Don Special Economic Zone mobilized its Military Command, Special Economic Zone Police, Ha Long Border Guard Station, and other relevant forces to deploy search and rescue operations.

By that evening, rescue forces had successfully saved Captain Vu Thanh Long and crew members Bui Van Nho and Nguyen Van Cuong. The three were transported to Van Don Regional General Hospital for emergency treatment. Two individuals, brothers Truong Van Phuong, 53, and Truong Van Hanh, 48, both from Dai Nang ward, Hai Phong city, remain trapped in the cabin.

Local authorities reported the incident to Quang Ninh Provincial Police, requesting additional personnel and equipment for search and rescue. Units are urgently working to reach and extract the two victims. The cause of the capsizing is under investigation.
