A representative from the Archdiocese of Saigon announced on the afternoon of 22/3 that Cardinal Pham Minh Man died at the Pastoral Center of the Archdiocese of Saigon at 5:22 p.m. after a period of illness. Details regarding the funeral arrangements will be announced on the morning of 23/3.
The diocesan office also informed parishes to ring solemn bells for 10 minutes starting at 8 p.m. today in his memory.

Born in 1934 in Ca Mau into a Catholic family, Cardinal Pham Minh Man showed an early inclination towards priesthood from the age of five. He was ordained a priest in 1965 in the Can Tho Diocese and was appointed bishop in 1993.
In 1998, Pope John Paul II appointed him archbishop of the Archdiocese of Ho Chi Minh City, a position that had been vacant for a long time. On 21/10/2003, he was elevated to cardinal, becoming the fifth cardinal of the Catholic Church in Vietnam. After 11 years, he retired and resided at the Traditional House of the Archdiocese of Ho Chi Minh City.
