Hanoi's Nguyen Trai street faces temporary narrowing due to ongoing construction for the beltway 2.5 drainage system. The Hanoi Department of Construction recently approved a traffic diversion plan for the Thanh Xuan ward section of Nguyen Trai street to facilitate the connection of the drainage system for the beltway 2.5 project. Work is scheduled from 20/9 until 7/10.

During this period, the available roadway for vehicles will be significantly reduced. The D1000 drainage pipe connection, heading towards Ha Dong, will be constructed in three phases using a rolling method. Each barricaded section will span 40 m, leaving only 15 m of road open for traffic. The contractor will sequentially barricade two lanes near the sidewalk, followed by the next two, and then two lanes adjacent to the median strip. Movement to a new section is only permitted after the road surface of the recently completed segment is restored.

Strict operational guidelines are in place to minimize traffic disruption. Construction vehicles are restricted to operating outside the barricades from 22h to 5h. By 5h, all machinery and vehicles must be moved inside the construction area to avoid impacting daytime traffic flow. Warning signs will be placed 200 m, 100 m, and 50 m from the construction site, accompanied by lights and reflective tape. The investor and contractor are required to deploy personnel to assist traffic police in managing diversions in the construction zone.

This construction is part of the larger Beltway 2.5 project, a critical infrastructure development for Hanoi. Beltway 2.5, extending nearly 20 km, traverses many densely populated areas of Hanoi. The road is planned to be 40-50 m wide and feature six lanes. The city is expediting the completion of its remaining sections, with technical completion anticipated on 10/10, coinciding with the anniversary of Capital Liberation Day.
