The incident occurred around 11:20 AM when a telescopic crane was lifting a steel frame, typically used for assembling tower cranes, onto a vehicle at a staging area in Hoa Phu hamlet, Phu Cat commune. The ground beneath the crane gave way, causing it to tilt and fall onto the adjacent residential home.
The level-four house, measuring about 100 square meters, suffered significant damage, with its kitchen and bathroom areas collapsing. Two children, 8 and 11 years old, were eating lunch inside and were fortunate to sustain only minor scratches.

At the scene, large sections of walls had fallen, smashing numerous household items such as a washing machine and dishes. The corrugated iron roof of the living room was punctured, and the house walls were cracked extensively. Outside, a crushed water tank had fallen into the yard, destroying a coffee table.
On the construction site side, the crane lay overturned, with nearly half of its almost 30-meter arm resting on the roof of the damaged house.
