Quynh Chi was a student in class 11A3 at Nguyen Thuc Tu High School. She was the eldest of five children in a farming family, and teachers and friends described her as gentle and diligent.
Earlier, on the evening of 10/4, Quynh Chi was walking with a group of friends at Cua Lo beach, in Cua Lo ward. At that time, a 14-year-old male student went swimming and was unfortunately swept out by waves, struggling in the water. Discovering the incident, Chi swam out to help, reaching the victim after several minutes of battling the waves and gradually pushing him closer to shore. However, the female student then became exhausted, was swept further out by the waves, and gradually sank. Rescue forces reached them and brought both to shore. The male student received first aid, was transferred to the hospital, and recovered from critical condition, but Quynh Chi did not survive.

The "brave youth" badge honors young people who perform courageous acts, willing to face danger to save lives, protect property, and serve community interests. This award is given to individuals whose spontaneous actions have clear social significance, with many cases being posthumously awarded to those who have died, aiming to spread a spirit of beautiful living and dedication among youth.
