Fines for failing to maintain safe distance on Phap Van - Nghi Son expressway

The Traffic Police Department will coordinate with management units to strictly penalize drivers who fail to maintain a safe distance on the entire inter-provincial expressway network from Phap Van to Nghi Son.

The Traffic Police Department (CSGT) announced that enforcement will begin on 27/8. Highway Traffic Police Team 3, a unit of the CSGT's Road and Railway Traffic Patrol and Control Guidance Division, will focus on patrolling and penalizing safe distance violations along the Phap Van - Cau Gie - Cao Bo - Mai Son - QL45 - Nghi Son expressway route.

This measure aims to reduce the chain collisions that frequently occur on this vital transport artery.

According to Circular 38, under normal weather conditions and dry road surfaces, vehicles traveling at speeds above 60 km/h must maintain a minimum safe distance of 55 m from the vehicle directly ahead. A distance of less than 55 m will be considered a violation.

Under Decree 168, if no collision occurs, drivers face fines from 4,000,000 VND to 6,000,000 VND and will have 2 points deducted from their driving license. If an accident is caused, the fine significantly increases to between 20,000,000 VND and 22,000,000 VND, with a deduction of 10 points from the driving license.

Currently, to help drivers accurately adjust their distance, the route management unit has installed clusters of distance signs (0m - 50m - 100m) along the expressway's sloped sections.

The CSGT also advises vehicle operators to pay special attention to controlling their speed and proactively increase the distance beyond the minimum when driving in adverse weather conditions such as rain, slippery roads, or dense fog.
