Fireworks light up the sky as Dong Nai becomes a city

One thousand high-altitude fireworks illuminated the sky on the evening of 18/12, celebrating Dong Nai's elevation to a centrally-governed city. The spectacular display captivated many attendees, who recorded the special moment on their phones.

Fireworks illuminated the entire sky. This is the second time Dong Nai has organized high-altitude fireworks to celebrate its elevation to city status. Previously, the locality had launched fireworks at 13 locations across the city on 30/4.

Long Hung Square, located on Nguyen Huu Canh Boulevard in Long Hung ward, was the focal point of the celebration. The event marked Dong Nai's official announcement as a centrally-governed city and its reception of the First Class Labor Order. This was the second time Dong Nai had organized high-altitude fireworks to commemorate its new city status; previously, the locality launched fireworks at 13 locations across the city on 30/4.

More than one thousand fireworks were launched from the Dong Nai riverbank, following a 45-minute art program. The program, themed 'Dong Nai - Southern Spirit, Rising with the Nation,' preceded the dazzling pyrotechnic display.

Ms. Kim Ngan's family attended the announcement ceremony and captured a commemorative photo with the fireworks display at the square.

Ms. Tam, a delegate attending the announcement ceremony, used her phone to capture the beautiful moment. 'With Dong Nai becoming a city, I hope infrastructure will be synchronously invested in, the economy will develop, and people will have a higher quality of life,' she said.

Besides Dong Nai residents, many people in TP HCM could also watch from the other side of the river.

Many residents gathered at a riverside restaurant near the former District 9 to watch the fireworks. 'Knowing Dong Nai was launching fireworks at Long Hung Square, I invited friends to come and watch. Even across the river, the high-altitude fireworks were still beautiful,' said Tuan Anh, a resident of TP HCM.

After completing their duties, the female traffic police officers of Dong Nai checked in together with the captivating fireworks display.

Upon merging with Binh Phuoc from 7/2025, Dong Nai city will boast a population of over 4,4 million, making it the third most populous in the country after Hanoi and TP HCM. Its area will span about 12.730 km2, ranking 9th nationwide.
