The plan to search for martyrs' remains at Le Thi Rieng park, Hoa Hung ward, was launched by the TP HCM High Command from late May. This initiative followed information provided by a research group led by architect Nguyen Xuan Thang concerning potential mass burial trenches at the site of the former Chi Hoa - Cho Quan cemetery.
Following the initial information, authorities collected witness accounts, organized workshops to cross-reference documents, and employed ground-penetrating radar to survey the area. By late June, specialized units had begun fencing off a section of the park and initiated exploratory excavations at identified locations with potential mass graves.

The ongoing search for martyrs' remains at Le Thi Rieng park is a component of the larger "500-day-night Campaign." This intensive national effort, focused on locating, collecting, and identifying martyrs' remains, is scheduled from 15/3/2026 to 27/7/2027. The campaign has set ambitious goals: to collect 7,000 sets of remains, gather biological samples from 230,000 unknown graves, and perform DNA testing on approximately 18,000 samples.
