Fishing boat explodes at Vinh Dam port, father and son injured

A fishing boat anchored at Vinh Dam port, Phu Quoc special economic zone, exploded on 11/8, suspected to be caused by a battery short circuit, injuring the owner and his 13-year-old son.

Around 10:30, residents heard a loud explosion from the fishing boat owned by Le Thanh Sang, 44, anchored at Vinh Dam port. Following the blast, fire quickly engulfed the vessel, with a smoke plume rising tens of meters high.

At the time of the incident, Sang and his son were working on the boat. The explosion caused severe burns to both father and son, who were then rushed to emergency care by relatives.

Upon receiving the report, Rach Dam Border Guard Station dispatched forces to the scene to extinguish the fire. The blaze was brought under control approximately one hour later. The fishing boat sustained heavy damage.

The cause of the explosion is currently being investigated, with initial suspicions pointing to a battery short circuit while the father and son were cleaning the boat.

Last week, a fire also occurred at Vinh Dam port, damaging 7 tourist boats and canoes.
