Groundbreaking held for two urban areas along Red River

Two urban areas, totaling 267,5 hectares in Linh Nam ward, broke ground on the morning of 11/8, expected to provide homes for approximately 148,000 people.

The multi-purpose urban area, spanning approximately 169,5 hectares, and the resettlement urban area, covering 98 hectares, are planned adjacent to each other. They will connect via the Red River Boulevard, a central axis road, and a riverside road. These two urban areas, along with 93 hectares of semi-submerged and themed parks, will form a cohesive urban space with unified technical infrastructure, transportation, amenities, and landscaping.

The investor stated that the two areas will not separate infrastructure or amenities between residents of the multi-purpose urban area and those resettled. The estimated 148,000 future residents will share schools, healthcare facilities, public spaces, and urban services. This project also anticipates creating approximately 15,000-20,000 jobs, supporting livelihoods for local residents.

Situated along the Red River, the urban area features a multi-tiered elevation design. Structures incorporate open column systems to minimize obstruction to water flow. The design calculations considered alarm level III floodwaters, at an elevation of approximately 11,5 meters, as a key factor. Important buildings are positioned at an elevation of approximately 12,4 meters.

Main transportation routes are constructed on viaducts. The ground area beneath these structures is cleared to enhance drainage capacity.

During the dry season, the lower areas will function as parks, squares, and community spaces. When river levels rise, these areas will channel water to regulating lakes and ecological depressions, ensuring that essential transportation and structures above remain operational within design parameters.

The investor confirmed that specialized units in hydrology, hydraulics, river training, dike safety, planning, transportation, environment, and ecology participated in the project's research phase.

The groundbreaking ceremony was organized by businesses Dai Quang Minh, THACO, Hoa Phat, and Tuong Lai Song Hong Group. These two urban areas are part of the broader Red River Landscape Boulevard project.

The Red River Landscape Boulevard project, approved by the Hanoi People's Council, has a research scope of approximately 11,000 hectares. This extensive project encompasses about 80 km of roads, 3,300 hectares of parks and entertainment zones, and over 2,100 hectares of land designated for clearance and urban redevelopment.

An estimated 200,000 people will be affected by the project, with some being resettled on-site. Hanoi has mandated that residents will only be relocated once resettlement areas, complete with synchronized technical and social infrastructure, are fully established.
