Grandmother and grandson killed in tractor-trailer collision

Thai Thi Dinh and her 12-year-old grandson died after the motorbike they were riding collided with a tractor-trailer on National Highway 46, on a section of road undergoing repairs.

After 4 p.m. on 10/1, a tragic accident occurred on National Highway 46 in Dai Hue commune, Nghe An province, resulting in the deaths of a grandmother and her grandson. Le Van Diep, 63, from Thanh Vinh ward, was driving a motorbike carrying his wife, Thai Thi Dinh, 67, and their 12-year-old grandson, Le Van Hoang Phuc. Near Dai Thang hamlet, the motorbike collided with a Dak Lak-registered tractor-trailer driven by Le Danh Cuong, 30, from Thanh Hoa, as both vehicles were traveling in opposing directions on the same lane.

The collision threw all three individuals from the motorbike onto the road. Thai Thi Dinh and Le Van Hoang Phuc died at the scene. Le Van Diep sustained severe injuries and was rushed to the emergency room.

At the accident site, the motorbike was heavily damaged, while the tractor-trailer suffered minor front-end damage. Debris from both vehicles was scattered across the road. Dai Hue commune police immediately dispatched officers to direct traffic and investigate the scene. By early evening, the area was cleared.

The accident occurred on a section of National Highway 46 that is currently undergoing upgrade construction. Although the highway is typically over 12 meters wide, this particular stretch through Dai Hue commune was narrowed to approximately 6 meters, allowing for only one lane of traffic at a time. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
