Hanoi halts roadwork for Tet holiday

Hanoi will temporarily suspend road and sidewalk construction for nearly one month to accommodate residents' travel needs during the Binh Ngo Lunar New Year.

The Hanoi Construction Department recently issued a directive to relevant units, mandating a temporary halt to road and sidewalk construction projects across the city. This measure ensures smooth operations for the 14th National Party Congress and the Binh Ngo Lunar New Year holiday in 2026.

Specifically, from 16/1 to 26/1, all road and sidewalk construction will be suspended to facilitate the 14th National Party Congress. This suspension applies to key arterial roads, belt roads, routes surrounding the National Convention Center, hotels housing delegates, and roads used for delegate travel to the Congress.

The roads where digging will cease for the Party Congress include:

* Belt one: Tran Khat Chan, Dai Co Viet, Xa Dan, Buoi, Lac Long Quan, Au Co, Nghi Tam, Tran Nhat Duat, Tran Khanh Du.

* Belt two: Minh Khai, Dai La, Truong Chinh, Lang, Vo Chi Cong, Vo Nguyen Giap.

* Belt three: Pham Van Dong, Khuat Duy Tien, Nguyen Xien, Nghiem Xuan Yem, Hoang Liet.

Radial and connecting arterial roads include: Thang Long Avenue, Tran Duy Hung, Nguyen Chi Thanh, Lieu Giai, Van Cao; Me Tri, Duong Dinh Nghe, Le Quang Dao, Le Duc Tho; Ho Tung Mau, Xuan Thuy, Cau Giay, Dao Tan, Kim Ma, Nguyen Thai Hoc, Tran Phu, Nguyen Tri Phuong; Le Van Luong, To Huu, Giang Vo, Lang Ha; Nguyen Trai, Tay Son, Nguyen Luong Bang, Ton Duc Thang, Le Duan, Truong Chinh, Giai Phong.

Roads surrounding the National Convention Center include: Do Duc Duc, Mieu Dam, Cuong Kien, Pham Hung.

Additionally, from 7/2 to 3/3, the Construction Department has ordered a city-wide suspension of road and sidewalk construction for the Binh Ngo Lunar New Year holiday in 2026. Exceptions apply only to emergency repairs and key projects explicitly licensed by the City People's Committee and the Construction Department.

During these suspension periods, the Construction Department urges city police and inspectors to enhance coordination, inspect, and address any violations by investors, project management boards, and contractors.
