hanoi, ho chi minh city prepare firework displays for new year

thousands of high- and low-altitude fireworks have been installed at 5 locations in hanoi and 4 in ho chi minh city, ready to ignite for the new year 2026.

hanoi will launch fireworks for 15 minutes, from 23:45 on 31/12/2025 to 0:00 on 1/1/2026. The displays will take place in Hoan Kiem, Hai Ba Trung, Tu Liem, Tay Ho, and Ha Dong wards.

this morning, preparations were underway at Lac Long Quan Flower Garden in Tay Ho ward, one of the city’s firework locations.

major Pham Tuan Thanh, Battalion Commander of the local military battalion, loaded fireworks onto the high-altitude racks.

soldiers sealed the firework barrels with foil to ensure safety and protect them from rain before the launch.

in addition to Lac Long Quan Flower Garden, Hoan Kiem ward features two firework sites: one in front of the Ha Noi Moi newspaper headquarters and another in front of the Hanoi Post Office. Other simultaneous displays for the new year will be held at Coconut Island in Thong Nhat Park (Hai Ba Trung ward), the F1 racetrack area (Tu Liem ward), and Van Quan Lake (Ha Dong ward).

the two sites at Hoan Kiem Lake each contain 700 fireworks. Low-altitude fireworks will be launched from 60 racks at each site, along with numerous pyrotechnic displays. This year marks the first time residents of the capital can witness pyrotechnic fireworks launched from three locations positioned in the middle of Hoan Kiem Lake.

tonight, hanoi will also host the "countdown 2026" new year's program, themed "open real connection 2". It will run from 19:00 to 24:00 at Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc Square and the Hoan Kiem Lake pedestrian street area.

in ho chi minh city, soldiers prepared pyrotechnic racks for about 1,300 fireworks at the Sai Gon River Tunnel entrance in An Khanh ward.

this year, the city will launch about 2,500 fireworks for the new year from several locations: the Sai Gon River Tunnel entrance, Dam Sen Cultural Park (Binh Thoi ward), the New City Center Area (Binh Duong ward), and Bai Sau Central Square (Vung Tau ward).

the firework displays will last 15 minutes, starting at 0:00 on 1/1/2026.

major Nguyen Van Dung, Head of Ordnance Department for the Ho Chi Minh City Command, stated that this year about 100 special fireworks will be launched, creating effects like rice bong lua (rice ears), rhododendron flowers, hearts, and Mickey Mouse shapes, with more vibrant colors than previous years.

high-altitude fireworks, containing various sizes of shells, are loaded into the tubes after being connected to electric fuses.

subsequently, soldiers cover the fireworks with nylon to protect them from rain before the launch.

after placing the high-altitude fireworks into the tubes, the electric fuses are connected to the control panel. This task represents one of the final steps in installing the fireworks.

in addition to the fireworks, ho chi minh city will host several major art programs, including the 31/12 countdown night on Nguyen Hue Walking Street and the expanded area of Le Loi Street - Lam Son Park - City Theater.
