Hanoi offers free public transport for national day

Residents and visitors can enjoy free metro and bus rides for four days, from 30/8 to 2/9, in celebration of the 80th National Day.

The Hanoi People's Committee announced on 23/8 that this initiative aims to facilitate travel to historical sites and celebratory events, while also mitigating traffic congestion and pollution. Two metro lines, Cat Linh - Ha Dong and Nhon - Cau Giay, along with 128 subsidized bus routes, will be entirely free of charge. Passengers will still receive tickets according to the route's fare, but will not be required to pay.

To accommodate increased travel demand, the metro lines will adjust their operating hours. On the 21st, 24th, 27th, and 29th of August, trains will run from 5:30 am to midnight. On 30/8, service will operate from 5 am to 10 pm, and on 1/9, from 5:30 am to midnight. On 2/9, trains will run continuously from midnight to 10 pm, with a frequency of six minutes during peak hours and 10 minutes during off-peak hours, pausing only for 80 minutes for technical maintenance.

Several bus routes passing through the city center include 09A from Hoan Kiem Lake to Nguyen Hoang Ton Street, 22A from Gia Lam District to Kim Ma Street, E09 from Smart City to West Lake, route 32 from Giap Bat Bus Station to Nhon, and the Yen Nghia - Kim Ma BRT line. The city has also designated government offices, educational institutions, and stadiums as parking areas for personal vehicles.

On 20/8, the city announced the provision of free drinking water, dry rations, and instant noodles, along with designated sheltered areas and free bus rides for residents, especially the elderly, traveling from other localities to Hanoi for the celebrations. Security and order will be maintained along parade routes, with priority given to veterans, the elderly, women, and children.

The Department of Construction will oversee the implementation of these plans, coordinating with relevant units to disseminate information on traffic flow, bus stops, bus operations, and network connectivity to tourist attractions and event venues.

Rehearsals are scheduled for the 21st, 24th, 27th, and 30th of August, leading up to the official National Day celebration and parade at 6:30 am on 2/9 in Hanoi.
