Around 11h on 6/1, ice began to form on tree branches and grass, steadily growing thicker.
"The temperature was -1°C, with winds so strong it was hard to stand, and the air was freezing", Dinh Hoi, a local resident, stated at 12h. The ice covered an area of over 100 meters.

Phia Oac, at 1,931 m in Thanh Cong commune, is Cao Bang province's second highest peak. It frequently experiences ice and snow during severe cold spells in the North.

Today marks the second day the North has been affected by an intensifying cold front, with minimum temperatures in 15 provinces and cities dropping below 15°C. Sa Pa (Lao Cai), Dong Van (Tuyen Quang), and Tam Dao (Phu Tho) all recorded 6°C. In Hanoi, temperatures fell below 12°C, prompting the meteorological agency to issue a public health warning.
