Late-season cold front brings heavy rain to the north

After several days of intense heat, the northern region is set to experience a late-season cold front starting tomorrow evening, bringing a sharp drop in temperatures and heavy rainfall to many areas.

From 31/5, a hot low-pressure area from the west has caused continuous and intense heat across the northern region and central provinces, with temperatures typically ranging from 35-38 degrees C. Tomorrow, 8/6, the northern midlands and plains will continue to see high temperatures of 35-37 degrees C.

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting announced that a late-season cold front will move into the northern region starting tomorrow evening and night. This front will compress a low-pressure trough, leading to widespread rain.

The Northwest region, along with northern Phu Tho and Tuyen Quang, is forecast to experience heavy rainfall, ranging from 50-100 mm, with some areas potentially receiving over 200 mm. Other localities in the northern region, including Thanh Hoa and Nghe An, can expect 20-50 mm of rain, with isolated areas seeing more than 100 mm.

After 9/6, rainfall will gradually decrease in the Northeast region, but widespread rain will persist in the western areas.

US-based Accuweather forecasts Hanoi's temperature today to be 30-40 degrees. By next Tuesday, it will drop by 12 degrees to 25-29 degrees, then slightly increase to 26-36 degrees C by the weekend. High-altitude areas above 1,500 m, such as Sa Pa (Lao Cai), will see temperatures drop to 16-18 degrees C early next week.

The central region will continue to experience hot weather. From Thanh Hoa to Da Nang and the eastern part of the region from Quang Ngai to Dak Lak, peak temperatures are expected to be 35-38 degrees C, with some areas exceeding 39 degrees C. The lowest humidity will be only 45-50%.

By 9/6, as the cold front from the north moves in, areas from Thanh Hoa to Ha Tinh will experience showers and thunderstorms, with isolated heavy rain. The hot weather will recede, mainly persisting from Hue to Da Nang and the eastern parts of Quang Ngai - Dak Lak, where temperatures will decrease to 35-37 degrees C.

The widespread heatwave in the central region is forecast to largely end by 10/6.

In the Central Highlands and southern region, the weak southwest monsoon will continue to bring typical rainy season weather. This area will experience scattered showers and thunderstorms, primarily in the late afternoon and evening. Daytime will be sunny, with peak temperatures of 31-34 degrees C in the Central Highlands and 33-35 degrees C in the southern region.

In anticipation of the heavy rainfall, the National Steering Committee for Civil Defense has issued a document urging the People's Committees of northern provinces and cities, along with Thanh Hoa and Nghe An, to proactively implement response measures.

Local authorities are instructed to closely monitor weather developments and promptly inform local governments and residents to enable proactive prevention. They must also review high-risk areas for flash floods and landslides, organizing resident evacuations when necessary. Rapid response forces should be prepared to clear blocked waterways and assist residents in recovering from natural disasters.
