Male student dies after being sucked into water pump pipe

A 16-year-old male student died after being sucked into a pump pipe and getting trapped while swimming with friends at an irrigation pump station's intake pool in Bach Ngoc commune.

On the afternoon of 31/5, the student and several friends went to swim at the intake pool of an irrigation pump station in Bach Ngoc commune. This station provides water for local irrigation.

While swimming, the student was sucked into the pump station's intake opening and became trapped. His friends ran to a nearby residential area to call for adult help, but the victim did not survive.

The pump station's intake pool is a rectangular concrete structure, measuring about 3-4 meters long, 2,5-3 meters wide, and over one meter deep. Its wall features three intake pipes, each approximately 20-30 centimeters in diameter, connected to the water supply system. These pipes generate significant suction when the pump operates.

Local authorities confirmed the victim was a student at a high school in the former Do Luong district.
