After nearly three years of construction, the Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway, spanning nearly 111 km with four lanes, a 17 m cross-section, and a total investment exceeding 27,500 billion VND, is largely complete. Phase one includes two component projects: the 37,6 km Can Tho - Hau Giang section and the over 73 km Hau Giang - Ca Mau section.
The Can Tho - Hau Giang section was inaugurated on 19/12, with the main route becoming operational from 22/12/2025. The Hau Giang - Ca Mau expressway section also saw its technical inauguration on 19/12.
According to the Ministry of Construction, a site inspection on 29/12 revealed that for the Can Tho - Hau Giang project, several items, including shoulders, drainage steps, and slope reinforcement, require urgent completion to avoid impacting the main route's operation.
For the Hau Giang - Ca Mau project, some units have not allocated sufficient personnel, supplies, or materials to construct the traffic safety system and asphalt concrete, hindering the project's planned operational launch.

To ensure timely progress, the Ministry of Construction mandates that the My Thuan Project Management Board, as the investor for the Can Tho - Hau Giang section, review and update the route's traffic safety system. They must prioritize completing all main route components, including fences, shoulders, concrete ditches, lighting, service roads, and slope reinforcement, along with remaining items such as interchanges and connecting routes.
The investor bears responsibility for managing and operating the commissioned section in accordance with regulations. This includes deploying sufficient personnel to regulate and guide traffic, particularly at expressway entry and exit points.
For the Hau Giang - Ca Mau section, the My Thuan Project Management Board is tasked with directing relevant units to complete service roads, remaining items like interchanges and connecting routes, and to bring the main route into operation.

"For contractors who continue to delay and fail to meet the planned opening, the My Thuan Project Management Board must implement strong measures to address them, ensuring the project's completion schedule is not affected," the Ministry of Construction directed. The Ministry will also review the selection of these units during the evaluation process for participation in tenders and projects under its management.
Once the entire Can Tho - Ca Mau route is complete, travel time from TP HCM to Ca Mau is anticipated to be about 3,5–4 hours, nearly halving the journey compared to National Highway 1.
