Due to a low-pressure trough extending across the Northern region, widespread showers and thunderstorms occurred on the night of 18/4 and 19/4, with locally heavy rain and strong thunderstorms. Hanoi experienced scattered thunderstorms.
The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting reported that thunderstorms persisted on the night of 19/4 and morning of 20/4, with some areas experiencing heavy rain. From noon and afternoon of 20/4, as the low-pressure trough weakened, rain quickly decreased, and the sky turned sunny.
For the two days of 21-22/4, the weather was mainly sunny and dry, with only a few scattered thunderstorms in the evening, concentrated in mountainous areas. The Northwest region might experience localized heatwaves.
From the night of 22/4 to 24/4, a weak, late-season cold air mass affected the Northern region, bringing widespread showers and thunderstorms again. Mountainous and midland areas could experience moderate rain, with some places seeing heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms. Daily high temperatures dropped below 30 degrees Celsius, and the weather became cooler.
Forecasts for the weekend of 26-27/4 indicate that the Northern region might experience another weak cold air mass, causing repeated thunderstorms. With successive cold air reinforcements, the region shows no signs of widespread heat for the remainder of april.
According to Accuweather, Hanoi's temperatures for the three days of next week will range from 23-32 degrees Celsius, dropping to about 26 degrees by thursday. In Sa Pa (Lao Cai), early next week, temperatures will be 17-26 degrees, decreasing to 13-19 degrees Celsius by the weekend.
In the Central region, from 21/4, the influence of a western low-pressure area could bring widespread heatwaves to the North and Central Central regions, with common temperatures of 35-37 degrees Celsius, and some areas above 38 degrees. However, the intensity of the heat will not be severe.
By the evening of 23/4, as cold air from the north moved in, the area from Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien Hue experienced thunderstorms again. From 24/4, the heatwave in the Central region essentially ended.
The Central Highlands and Southern regions from 21-24/4 experienced localized heatwaves, with scattered thunderstorms in the evening. From approximately 24-27/4, the Southern region is likely to see widespread heat return, with high temperatures of 35-37 degrees Celsius.
The Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention and Control reported that from 15/4 to date, thunderstorms, hailstorms, and whirlwinds caused 10 deaths, one missing person, and 4 injuries. Three homes completely collapsed, and over 5,400 homes were damaged or had their roofs blown off.
