On the morning of 14/1, the funeral service for General Le Van Dung was held with state-level honors at the Southern National Funeral Home in Hanh Thong ward.
General Le Van Dung, born Nguyen Van Noi on 25/12/1945, hailed from Phong My commune, Giong Trom district, Ben Tre province (now Luong Hoa commune, Vinh Long province). He resided at 702 An Binh hamlet, Phu Tuc commune, Vinh Long province.
He joined the military on 14/5/1963. He served as a member of the Party Central Committee for the 8th, 9th, and 10th terms, and as Secretary of the Party Central Committee for the 9th and 10th terms. He was also a National Assembly delegate for the 11th and 12th terms. His former positions included Deputy Minister of National Defense, Chief of the General Staff, and Head of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army.

In the condolence book, Do Van Chien, Standing Vice Chairman of the National Assembly, wrote that with 81 years of life and 60 years of Party membership, General Le Van Dung made significant and outstanding contributions to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation. His life of revolutionary activity serves as a bright example for officials and soldiers to learn from and emulate.

General Le Van Dung's coffin was laid at the Southern National Funeral Home, 5 Pham Ngu Lao street, TP HCM. The viewing ceremony took place from 6h to 10h30 on 14/1 (the 26th day of the 11th lunar month in the Year of the Snake). The memorial service was held at 10h30 on the same day. The burial took place from 17h30 on 14/1 at his family's land, 702 An Binh hamlet, Phu Tuc commune, Vinh Long province.
