On 10/10, the Traffic Police Department (CSGT) of Da Nang City Police announced it had issued a citation to the driver of a pickup truck with a Da Nang license plate for installing additional lights on the vehicle's roof.
Previously, residents recorded a video of a Ford Ranger Raptor, fitted with additional lights on its cabin roof, driving at night. The vehicle emitted a strong white beam, causing glare and obstructing the view of following vehicles.
The video was shared on social media and sent to the CSGT Department's hotline on 9/10. Thang Binh Traffic Police Station verified the footage and then summoned the driver, residing in Dien Ban Dong ward, for questioning on the morning of 10/10.
At the police station, the 32-year-old driver, who works in information technology, admitted to activating the roof-mounted lights at approximately 9 p.m. on 8/10 while driving home via a residential concrete road in Ngoc Binh residential group, Dien Ban Dong ward. He also acknowledged that this affected the visibility of vehicles behind him.
The driver was cited under point a, clause 3, Article 13 of Decree 168/2024. The citation is not yet a final penalty decision, so the specific fine amount has not been determined. According to regulations, driving an oto with additional roof-mounted lights carries a fine of one to two million dong and a deduction of two points from the driver's license. The CSGT stated that the driver must dismantle the added equipment and restore the vehicle to its original condition.
The CSGT warned that unauthorized installation and use of non-compliant lights can cause glare, restrict the visibility of other drivers, and pose a risk of accidents. The Da Nang CSGT Department advises residents not to arbitrarily alter vehicle structure or technical specifications in violation of regulations.
