Prolonged congestion on the road connecting Mui Ne - Da Lat

Long queues of cars stretched for several kilometers on national route 28B (connecting Mui Ne - Da Lat), specifically through Dai Ninh pass, as low-clearance vehicles had to inch their way through a construction zone on the afternoon of 14/2.

Vehicles on national route 28B, the vital link between Mui Ne, Binh Thuan, and Da Lat, Lam Dong, faced significant delays on the afternoon of 14/2. Around 3 PM, motorists reported waiting over an hour to traverse Dai Ninh pass, where ongoing construction bottlenecked traffic and reduced movement to a crawl.

"My car took over 1.5 hours to get through the congested section," reported Nguyet Que, a driver who recently navigated the pass.

Drivers explained that the uneven, gravel-strewn road surface caused some low-clearance vehicles to get stuck, necessitating stops for resolution. These incidents exacerbated the existing congestion, creating lengthy delays for following traffic. Social media users also advised motorists to seek alternative routes to avoid the prolonged waits.

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Tiep, Head of the Lam Dong Traffic Police Department, acknowledged the high volume of traffic and slow movement on the pass that afternoon. However, he clarified that the situation had not escalated to "severe congestion."

"Low-clearance vehicles are proceeding slowly to avoid undercarriage damage, which causes a backlog of traffic behind them," Tiep explained. He confirmed that traffic police officers were deployed to manage the flow and ensure safety on the route.

The national route 28B renovation and upgrade project, initiated in 4/2024, carries an investment exceeding 1,400 billion VND. This 68-kilometer route includes over 10 kilometers traversing Dai Ninh pass. Currently, nearly 60 kilometers have been paved, with approximately 8 kilometers remaining under construction. The project is slated for completion in 3/2026.
