Proposal for a four-day Vietnam Culture Day holiday

For the first observance of Vietnam Culture Day on 24/11 in 2026, the Ministry of Home Affairs has proposed swapping a working day to extend the holiday or maintaining it as a single-day observance.

The Ministry of Home Affairs is seeking feedback from ministries and agencies on two options for the Vietnam Culture Day holiday on 24/11, which will be observed for the first time in 2026. This is part of a broader document concerning several public holidays for 2026 and 2027.

Option one suggests swapping the working day of monday, 23/11, for the weekly rest day of saturday, 28/11. This would create a four-day holiday for civil servants and public employees, running from 21/11 to 24/11, including the two weekend days.

Option two proposes a single-day holiday on 24/11, with no working day swap.

The Ministry of Home Affairs favors option one. A four-day continuous break allows officials to engage in cultural activities, enhancing the day's significance. This extended holiday also facilitates cultural, tourism, and service activities, stimulating consumer spending. The proposed one-day swap ensures full compliance with working hours.

The Politburo previously agreed to designate 24/11 annually as Vietnam Culture Day, aiming for a paid holiday where workers receive full pay. This policy seeks to enhance public cultural enjoyment, encourage artists to create, and promote a cultured and civilized lifestyle throughout society.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has proposed incorporating Vietnam Culture Day on 24/11 into an amended bill. This bill is expected to be submitted to the National Assembly for consideration and approval at its upcoming October session. If approved, Vietnam will have 12 official public holidays each year.
