According to Ho Quang Buu, Vice Chairman of the Da Nang City People's Committee, the city faces high tides, rising sea levels, and erosion in some coastal areas. Implementing the coconut tree planting project is meaningful for strengthening green spaces, stabilizing sandy beaches, reducing the impact of sea winds, and improving the ecological landscape.

"These donated coconut trees not only hold environmental value but also serve as a living symbol of friendship, trust, and the growing cooperative relationship between the two localities," Buu stated at the acceptance ceremony. City leaders urged relevant units to coordinate closely in planting, caring for, and managing the trees to ensure their healthy growth.
Da Nang city is addressing erosion and the impacts of climate change in its coastal areas through various methods. Previously, on 21/12/2024, the Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang Tourist Beaches Management Board planted over 300 coconut trees at Man Thai beach, Son Tra ward. This activity was part of a plan to green 3,500 coconut trees across tourist beaches.
The city also launched a social mobilization program, calling on agencies, organizations, businesses, and residents to contribute. After one month of implementation, the Management Board received nearly 700 coconut trees.
This mobilization program aims to complete the plan to plant a total of 3,497 coconut trees by the end of QIII/2025. Planting areas are concentrated along two coastal routes: Hoang Sa - Vo Nguyen Giap - Truong Sa (spanning Son Tra, An Hai, Ngu Hanh Son wards) and Nguyen Tat Thanh route (covering Thanh Khe, Hoa Khanh, Lien Chieu wards).
"Planting coconut trees will create a more beautiful, greener coastal landscape, contributing to a vibrant, attractive environment, mitigating the effects of climate change, and limiting coastal erosion and landslides," said Nguyen Duc Vu, Head of the Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang Tourist Beaches Management Board.
