Red sand flood inundates mui ne overnight

Heavy rain and water from hills along road 706B carried red sand onto Nguyen Thong street in Phu Thuy ward, causing difficulties for vehicles on the Phan Thiet - Mui Ne route on the evening of 6/10.

Heavy rain on the evening of 6/10 caused a red sand flood in Phan Thiet, particularly affecting Nguyen Thong street in Phu Thuy ward. Water from hills and various projects along road 706B surged into an empty plot opposite the Sumerland project before flowing onto Nguyen Thong street.

Following old erosion paths, the torrent carried a large volume of red sand, blanketing the road segment in front of Sau Lan restaurant. The strong current and slippery surface made it challenging for motorbikes to pass, often requiring assistance.

Many vehicles traveling between Mui Ne and Phan Thiet, and vice versa, had to turn back, seeking alternative routes via road 706B. Nguyen Van Lanh, a commuter, recounted, "Two years ago, a girl riding a motorbike here was swept away. That memory makes me scared, so I turned back for safety."

In response, Phu Thuy ward deployed police and military personnel to the site to manage traffic and prepare for any incidents. Large vehicles were advised to proceed slowly and maintain safe distances.

Ward leaders announced that once the rain subsided, machinery would be deployed to clear the sand, ensuring the road is clear for traffic overnight.

This marks the third red sand flood in the area this year. The previous incident on 28/9 damaged Tu village road and threatened several coastal homes and resorts.

In recent years, the construction of real estate projects on the hills has led to continuous red sand floods. In 9/2024, an investment in a sand-prevention drainage system brought stability for one year.

However, this year, the floods have recurred with greater severity, damaging the recently installed drainage system.

On 2/10, Nguyen Van Nghi, Chairman of Phu Thuy Ward People's Committee, announced plans to propose provincial investment for an additional parallel drainage pipe to alleviate pressure. He also intends to mobilize real estate businesses on the hills to contribute funds for a second drainage line to permanently resolve the issue.
