Around 13h, Le Thanh Chau, 26, was driving a truck with two passengers to collect flowers in Xuan Truong ward, Da Lat. After loading, the truck proceeded along Xuan Thanh road towards central Da Lat.
As the truck crossed a stream, over 10 meters wide, water from upstream surged due to heavy rain. Midway across, the floodwaters swept the vehicle a short distance before it became stuck.
Recognizing the risk of the truck overturning, Chau and his two passengers quickly opened the cabin doors, climbed onto the cargo roof, and jumped to safety on the bank.
According to a representative from the Xuan Truong ward People's Committee (UBND), the area experienced heavy rain that afternoon, which, combined with upstream floods, caused water levels to rise rapidly.
By early afternoon, water levels in the stream began to recede. The truck owner is currently arranging specialized equipment for salvage. Local authorities plan to enhance warning systems at the submerged crossing.
Lam Dong province has experienced continuous heavy rain in recent days, leading to localized flooding and rapidly rising water levels. On 4/10, many streets in Da Lat were submerged over one meter deep, with floodwaters entering homes and submerging motorbikes. In Bao Lam 2 and B'Lao ward, over 40 households and 30 tourists were evacuated as water levels rose 0,8-1,2 meters.
On 5/10, hail struck Don Duong, followed by heavy rain that submerged national highway 27 by 30-50 centimeters. The persistent rainfall also heightened the risk of landslides on Prenn Pass, D'ran Pass, and other mountainous regions.
