Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee approved the revised investment policy for the project on 14/1. The regulating lake is situated in Tay Nha Trang ward, classified as a Group B project, with an expected implementation period from 2025 to 2027.
This project includes a regulating lake system, complete with lakeside walkways and green spaces. It also features a water diversion canal running along the railway line to the lake, and a drainage canal from the lake to the Cai river. The project aims to improve urban drainage infrastructure, mitigate flood risks amidst rapid urbanization, and create more green public spaces for the Tay Nha Trang area.

The adjusted project cost increased to 585 billion dong, compared to the initial decision issued in 10/2021 which allocated over 380 billion dong. The revised budget includes over 322 billion dong for compensation, support, and resettlement, and over 152 billion dong for construction. The remaining funds cover project management, consulting, and related expenses. Funding for the project will be sourced from the provincial budget.
Under the revised decision, the project's name changed from "regulating lake in northern Nha Trang city" to "regulating lake in Tay Nha Trang ward." This adjustment aligns with the approved 1/2,000 scale zoning plan for the Hon Nghe area. The Provincial Project Development Management Board is assigned as the investor, responsible for organizing implementation according to regulations, ensuring project progress and quality.
These efforts follow the historic floods in mid-11 last year in Khanh Hoa, which resulted in 22 deaths and over 1,000 collapsed or damaged homes. The floods caused widespread destruction of roads, crops, and infrastructure, with total estimated damages exceeding 5,000 billion dong. Among the affected areas, Tay Nha Trang ward and Dien Dien commune recorded the most severe damage.
To further address flood concerns, Khanh Hoa provincial authorities previously proposed constructing the D25 flood drainage canal combined with a road. This initiative aims to mitigate flood risks for Tay Nha Trang and its surrounding areas. The project will be implemented in Tay Nha Trang ward and Dien Dien commune, with an estimated total investment of nearly 2,000 billion dong.
