Around 1:30 PM, Kiet and a group of National Highway 1 maintenance workers were operating in Ham Thuan commune. As he was clearing debris on Ong Tam bridge, a Hanoi-plated car traveling northbound-southbound struck him.

The impact threw Kiet towards the roadside. Nearby colleagues rushed to provide first aid and called an ambulance to transport him to Binh Thuan General Hospital, but he did not survive.

At the scene, the car involved in the accident had a dented front and a shattered windshield. The area where the workers were operating had warning cones placed to redirect traffic.

Lam Dong Provincial Police detained the driver, examined the scene, and collected evidence to investigate the cause of the accident.
