On 16/1, Nguyen Cong Hoang, Vice Chairman of Quang Ngai Provincial People's Committee, urged the investor and contractors to accelerate construction of the Tra Khuc river downstream weir. The priority is completing the bridge and road for timely opening to serve public travel during Tet Binh Ngo 2026.
The provincial leadership requested the prompt completion of the road base, surface, and lighting system along the route over the weir. Additionally, they asked for a review and arrangement of traffic safety plans at the connection points with Hoang Sa Road (north bank) and Truong Sa Road (south bank) to prevent conflicts when vehicles pass.

According to the Provincial Project Management Board for Investment and Construction of Transport Works (the investor), construction volume has reached approximately 97%, equivalent to over 1,196 billion VND. While the bridge and road sections are nearing completion, hydraulic and auxiliary facilities are expected to be finished by September this year.
Two bridge sections, nearly one kilometer long, are largely finished, with crews currently addressing the joints between spans. The road section, about 430 meters long, traversing Ngoc Island in the middle of the river, has been graded and is undergoing compaction. Many residents from both banks have already been walking and exercising on this bridge-road route.
The Tra Khuc river downstream weir project, with a total investment of nearly 1,500 billion VND, began construction in mid-2019. This project combines hydraulic and transport functions. It aims to raise water levels to create a scenic landscape, limit saltwater intrusion, and supplement domestic water sources. Concurrently, it seeks to open avenues for urban development on Ngoc Island and improve waterway and road transport.

The structure comprises two bridge sections connecting Ngoc Island to An Phu commune (south bank) and Truong Quang Trong ward (north bank), with a road route across the island in the middle. The hydraulic component is a river barrier gate nearly 720 meters wide, featuring 19 compartments with automatic sluice gates, along with an overflow section and a fish passage.
Once the bridge-road route over the weir opens, the over 16-kilometer downstream section of the Tra Khuc River will feature 7 road bridges, adding a crucial connection axis for the central Quang Ngai area.
