The multi-vehicle collision began around 2:30 PM near Xuan Que commune. A 5-seater car with a Ho Chi Minh City license plate, traveling on the expressway, unexpectedly struck a red service car ahead. This initial impact propelled the service car forward, leading it to collide with four other vehicles, creating a chain reaction involving six cars.
While no injuries were reported, many vehicles sustained damage to their front and rear sections. The accident resulted in localized traffic congestion, which lasted for several hours in the affected area.
The incident occurred amidst heavy weekend traffic on the route. Lam, a driver regularly using the expressway, noted the high volume of cars traveling from Phan Thiet to Ho Chi Minh City on weekend afternoons. He observed that vehicles often slow down and queue as they approach the toll booth.
"The increased number of cars heading to Ho Chi Minh City also causes congestion at key interchanges", Lam explained. He cited issues at the junctions connecting the Phan Thiet - Dau Giay and Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressways, as well as the Dau Giay - Ho Chi Minh City and Bien Hoa - Vung Tau routes, all contributing to slow-moving traffic.

The Phan Thiet - Dau Giay expressway, a 99 km route, links Binh Thuan with Dong Nai. Built with a total investment exceeding 12.500 billion VND, it serves as a vital transport corridor for traffic from the South Central Coast and Central Highlands to Ho Chi Minh City. This expressway has recently experienced a series of accidents, with a majority attributed to drivers failing to maintain a safe distance between vehicles.
