Steel coils tumble onto street

Two massive steel coils fell from a container truck at the Tan Thanh roundabout, crushing a lottery ticket booth and a motorbike.

Around 10 a.m., a container truck with a Ba Ria - Vung Tau license plate was traveling on Hac Dich - Toc Tien street towards Hac Dich commune. As it navigated the Tan Thanh roundabout, the securing chains snapped, causing two of the three steel coils to fall off.

One coil rolled dozens of meters onto the sidewalk, demolishing a lottery ticket booth before coming to rest on a motorbike parked in front of an electronics store. The other coil landed in the middle of the road.

"I was selling lottery tickets when I heard a loud noise," the booth owner recounted. "I saw the steel coil rolling towards me and ran. My booth and motorbike are damaged."

Traffic police arrived at the scene to manage the situation and remove the steel coils.

Incidents of steel coils falling from trucks are a recurring problem, posing a significant safety hazard. Currently, there are no specific regulations regarding securing these types of loads.
