Around 8:30 h, flames emerged from a compensation cabinet adjacent to the control building within the 110 kV substation, spanning approximately 1,000 m2 on Thanh Loc 16 street, An Phu Dong ward. Moments later, a column of black smoke rose rapidly, spreading across the surrounding area.
On-site personnel quickly responded, preventing the fire from spreading. "Before the fire, there were several loud explosions inside the station, and then black smoke quickly rose", said Phuong Thanh, a resident living near the scene.
Nearly ten firefighters arrived shortly after, using fire hoses to bring the blaze under control within about 20 minutes.
The incident caused no casualties but damaged equipment, and the control building's wall was stained with black smoke.
A representative from Ho Chi Minh City Power Corporation (EVNHCMC) stated that the fire originated in a compensation cabinet within the substation. This equipment is designed to store electrical energy and manage emergency situations.
"The incident did not affect the power grid; the unit has rectified the issue and continues to ensure electricity supply for the area", the EVNHCMC representative said.
The 110 kV substation is responsible for receiving high-voltage electricity, stepping it down to medium voltage for distribution to households, industrial zones, and smaller substations.
