Three victims in Hanoi townhouse fire identified as father and sons

Three victims of yesterday's townhouse fire in Van Phu urban area, Kien Hung ward, were a father and his sons; the eldest son escaped but sustained approximately 60% body burns.

According to the Kien Hung Ward People's Committee, the fire at house number 7, adjacent to house 9, in Van Phu urban area, resulted in the deaths of Nguyen Van Tuan, 36, and his 11-year-old son. His 13-year-old eldest son, who escaped the blaze, is currently receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit at the Le Huu Trac National Institute of Burns. The boy sustained approximately 60% burns across his body, primarily affecting his head, face, arms, and back.

The three victims were permanent residents of Nghia Dan commune, Hung Yen province. Nguyen Van Tuan had rented the townhouse for over a year, operating an interior decoration business from the premises.

Kien Hung ward leaders provided initial support of 60 million VND to the victims' families. Additionally, the Hanoi Department of Health offered 32,5 million VND for each fatality.

Earlier, at 13h30 on 3/7, a fire erupted from the 4-story townhouse, which included an an attic and covered approximately 70 m2, in Van Phu urban area. Nguyen Van Tuan and his two sons were napping when the blaze started. Minutes later, the 13-year-old boy managed to open the iron gate and ran out, his skin peeling from burns.

Witnessing the large blaze, many neighbors attempted to extinguish it with fire extinguishers and water, but their efforts were unsuccessful. Police mobilized 5 fire trucks, one ladder truck, two command vehicles, and 45 officers and soldiers to the scene. Upon entering, police discovered the bodies of Nguyen Van Tuan and his 11-year-old son.

The burned property was a tube house. The first and second floors were used for the interior decoration business, while the third and 4th floors served as sleeping quarters. All windows were sealed with iron bars. Quang Thanh, who lives in the house opposite the burned property, stated that aside from the boy who escaped, the two trapped victims showed no signs of calling for help.

Police are currently maintaining a cordon around the house, examining the scene, and investigating the cause of the fire.
