On the evening of 5/6, the Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee inaugurated its first fruit festival in 2026. Held at Hung Vuong Square in Dao Thanh ward, the event, themed "Dong Thap - Land of Sweet Fruits," will run for 4 days. It aims to promote local agricultural products, tourism, and orchard culture.

The festival features 21 activities, including: a fruit model art competition; water music, light, and art mapping performances titled "Come and Listen to the River's Tales"; a painting competition named "Sweet Fruit Region - Colors of the Homeland"; and a street festival, parade, and costume performance called "Dong Thap - Fragrance of the Sweet Fruit Region."

Hung Vuong Square hosts numerous stalls showcasing local specialties, fruits, OCOP products, and regional cuisine. From afternoon to evening, thousands of residents and tourists visited the stalls, taking photos and making purchases.
Dong Thap currently boasts nearly 135,000 hectares of fruit trees, cultivating about 20 key varieties such as: durian, dragon fruit, and mango. The province produces approximately 2,5 million tons annually. Of this, about 55,000 hectares have been granted 1,329 growing area codes.

According to the organizers, the festival aims to honor specialty fruits from Dong Thap and the Mekong Delta region. It also serves as an opportunity to promote the potential and strengths of the fruit industry, boost trade promotion, and connect consumption in both domestic and export markets.
The event fosters an exchange space among managers, scientists, businesses, cooperatives, farmers, and consumers. Through this, the locality hopes to promote agricultural tourism and experiential tourism, linked with showcasing Dong Thap's culture, people, and unique products.
