TP HCM experiences heavy rain during christmas

Influenced by a cold front from the north, TP HCM experiences Christmas rain for the first time in five years, with showers expected to continue until tomorrow.

At 3 PM, the sky over central TP HCM and its suburban wards was overcast. Heavy rain began in many areas, continuing until 4 PM. This unseasonal Christmas rain surprised many residents. Motorcyclists sought shelter under awnings, while drivers used low beams to navigate.

The Southern Region Hydro-Meteorological Center reported that a strengthened cold front from the north caused the heavy rain across the Southern region. This rain is expected to persist through the night of 24/12 and into tomorrow. Notably, this marks the first time in five years that TP HCM has experienced rain on Christmas Day. The region is forecast to be sunny from 27/12 to 3/1/2026.

The year 2025 has been marked by unusual weather patterns. In mid-February, the Southern region saw its most significant unseasonal rainfall in 20 years. On 13/2, TP HCM recorded over 120 mm of rain, an exceptionally rare event.
