Around 9 AM, a tractor-trailer carrying a 40-foot container was traveling on Nguyen Van Linh Street, heading from Tan Thuan Export Processing Zone towards the TP HCM - Trung Luong Expressway. As it neared the Binh Thuan intersection in Binh Dong ward, the driver noticed smoke emanating from the cabin. The driver promptly pulled over to the side of the road and exited the vehicle.
Many nearby residents brought mini fire extinguishers to suppress the flames, but their efforts were unsuccessful. Minutes later, the fire intensified, completely engulfing the front of the vehicle. The incident occurred as the driver was returning to the Mekong Delta with an empty container.
The blaze caused significant traffic disruption on TP HCM's western gateway route. Vehicles were gridlocked for about 1 km for nearly 30 minutes as authorities restricted access to manage the scene. The tractor unit was completely burned, reduced to its frame. Initial investigations suggest the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit in the cabin.
Nguyen Van Linh Street, nearly 18 km long, serves as a vital traffic artery for southern TP HCM. It connects key areas such as Phu My Hung, South Saigon, and the port clusters of Hiep Phuoc, Tan Thuan, VICT, and Ben Nghe with the expressway leading to the Mekong Delta.
