Traffic paralyzed in many areas due to rain and floods

Sections of national highway 1A through Gia Lai, Dak Lak, and Khanh Hoa are deeply submerged, paralyzing traffic; in Nha Trang, police had to rescue a passenger bus stranded in swift currents.

By midday on 20/11, thousands of vehicles remained stranded at the Ngoc Hoi intersection, the junction of the north-south railway with 23 Thang 10 and 19 Thang 5 roads, in central Nha Trang, Khanh Hoa province.

This area is heavily flooded due to heavy rain and rising floodwaters, causing numerous automobiles to stall and paralyzing traffic.

All branches at the Ngoc Hoi intersection are congested with vehicles. Some routes leading to central Nha Trang are deeply submerged, cutting off access.

The 23 Thang 10 road, a vital route at Nha Trang's western gateway, is submerged over one meter deep. Adjacent to the Go! supermarket area in the Vinh Diem Trung urban zone, vast expanses of water remain, with many automobiles stalled.

Early this morning, on national highway 1A near Cau Lung bridge in Dien Khanh commune, Khanh Hoa province, a 40-seat passenger bus carrying 33 people traveling from TP HCM to Quang Ngai was swept away by floodwaters. Firefighting and Rescue Team Area 4 quickly arrived and initiated rescue operations for both the people and the vehicle.

Many impatient drivers walked among the stranded vehicles, waiting for the water to recede before departing.

Passengers in the stranded vehicles received support including instant noodles, power supply, and other food items.

Dozens of automobiles have been stranded on national highway 1, the section through Dong Hoa commune, Dak Lak province (formerly Hoa Vinh commune, Phu Yen province), from yesterday afternoon until this morning. Prolonged heavy rain forced many drivers to eat and sleep in their vehicles overnight.

Nguyen Duc Ty, 57, and his two younger siblings, who work in TP HCM, drove back to their hometown of Tuy Hoa to help his wife clean up after hearing news of the flood. When they were about 15 km from home, all three became stranded on the national highway. "Last night, my two brothers and I went hungry, but luckily this morning we received food from the relief team," Ty said.

Approximately 35 km away, in the areas of Co Ma Pass and the southern Deo Ca Pass, Dai Lanh commune (Khanh Hoa), several landslides occurred, with rocks and soil almost completely covering the road. Local authorities deployed self-defense forces to block access and devised plans to clear the road. _Huynh Dong_
