Tran Sy Thanh, Nguyen Van Thang nominated for 16th National Assembly

Tran Sy Thanh, Chairman of the Central Inspection Commission, and Nguyen Van Thang, Minister of Finance, have been nominated by voters at their workplaces to run for the 16th National Assembly, receiving unanimous approval.

Voters at the Central Inspection Commission recently unanimously nominated Tran Sy Thanh, the Commission's Chairman, to run for the 16th National Assembly. Voters evaluated Mr. Thanh as a well-trained senior Party leader with strong political resolve, impeccable moral character, an exemplary lifestyle, and high prestige. The Central Committee highly trusts him to hold the position of Chairman of the Central Inspection Commission, an agency crucial to Party building work.

Mr. Thanh is recognized for extensive experience across various fields, having held important positions at the Ministry of Finance, the Central Economic Commission, Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group, and in Dak Lak, Lang Son, and Ha Noi provinces. He has served three terms as a member of the Party Central Committee and two terms as a National Assembly deputy.

Speaking after his nomination, Mr. Thanh affirmed his commitment to diligently and responsibly fulfill all duties as a National Assembly deputy if elected. He pledged to maintain close contact with voters, remain subject to public oversight, and timely and fully reflect the will and aspirations of voters and the people to the National Assembly.

Tran Sy Thanh, Chairman of the Central Inspection Commission, is 55 years old and hails from Nghe An. He holds a Master's degree in Economics and a Bachelor's degree in Finance and Accounting. He was an alternate member of the 11th Party Central Committee, and a full member of the 12th and 13th terms. He also served as a National Assembly deputy for the 14th and 15th terms.

Mr. Thanh previously served as Deputy Director of the General Planning Department, Deputy Chief of Office, Chief of Office, and Deputy General Director of the State Treasury (Ministry of Finance).

From 2008, he successively held positions such as Vice Chairman of Dak Lak province; member of the Central Inspection Commission; Secretary of the Bac Giang Provincial Party Committee (now Bac Ninh); Deputy Chairman of the Central Inspection Commission; and Secretary of the Lang Son Provincial Party Committee.

From late 2017, Mr. Thanh spent nearly three years as Deputy Head of the Central Economic Commission and concurrently Chairman of the Board of Members of Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group. He then served for eight months as Deputy Chief of the National Assembly Office and 15 months as State Auditor General.

Mr. Thanh served as Chairman of the Ha Noi People's Committee from 7/2022 for over three years before being elected Chairman of the Central Inspection Commission by the Party Central Committee in 11/2025.

Nguyen Van Thang, Minister of Finance, also received unanimous nomination from voters at his workplace to run for the 16th National Assembly. Addressing the voters, Mr. Thang affirmed his spirit of dedication throughout his previous terms as a National Assembly deputy and pledged to continue fulfilling his responsibilities as a people's representative. If elected, he committed to actively participate in National Assembly activities, including drafting laws and resolutions, especially those related to finance, to meet the country's development needs in the new era.

Nguyen Van Thang is 53 years old and hails from Ha Noi. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Financial and Monetary Theory. He was an alternate member of the 12th Party Central Committee and a full member of the 13th term. He also served as a National Assembly deputy for the 14th and 15th terms.

Before assuming governmental positions, Mr. Thang worked for 22 years at Vietnam Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Industry and Trade (VietinBank), holding various important roles from Director of VietinBank's Ha Noi branch to General Director and Chairman of VietinBank's Board of Directors.

In 7/2018, he was appointed Vice Chairman of Quang Ninh province, then Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Quang Ninh Provincial People's Committee. Before becoming the former Minister of Transport in 11/2022, Mr. Thang spent two years as Secretary of the Dien Bien Provincial Party Committee.

In 11/2024, the National Assembly approved Nguyen Van Thang's appointment as Minister of Finance.

This morning, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism organized a voter conference, unanimously nominating Deputy Minister Lam Thi Phuong Thanh to run for the 16th National Assembly.

Minister Nguyen Van Hung praised Ms. Thanh as an official who grew up through youth union activities and was trained through many important central and local positions. Throughout her career, Ms. Thanh has consistently been recognized as a capable, resolute, dedicated female official with many initiatives and significant contributions.

In her various roles, from youth union work, the Central Propaganda Department, Secretary of the Lang Son Provincial Party Committee, to the Party Central Office, Ms. Thanh consistently demonstrated strategic advisory thinking and capability.

Lam Thi Phuong Thanh is 59 years old and hails from Ninh Binh. She holds a Master's degree in Law and a Bachelor's degree in History. She was a member of the 12th and 13th Party Central Committees.

She grew up through youth union activities, dedicating many years to youth and student movements, successively holding positions such as Secretary of the Central Youth Union, Standing Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam National Union of Students, Head of the School Youth Department, Chairman of the Vietnam National Union of Students, and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the Central Youth Union Agency.

Before assuming the position of Secretary of the Lang Son Provincial Party Committee in 12/2017, she spent six years as Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department (now the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department).

In 7/2021, the Politburo assigned Lam Thi Phuong Thanh to be Deputy Chief of the Party Central Office, and the Prime Minister appointed her Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism in late 12/2025.

Also this morning, the Vietnam Women's Union unanimously nominated Nguyen Thi Tuyen, a member of the Party Central Committee, Vice President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, and Chairwoman of the Vietnam Women's Union; and Tran Phuong Lan, Standing Vice Chairwoman of the Vietnam Women's Union, to run for the 16th National Assembly.
