Trucks collide on Thang Long Bridge, two drivers trapped

Two trucks collided head-on on Thang Long Bridge, severely damaging their cabins and trapping both drivers for over an hour on the morning of 30/7.

Around 4:43 AM, a truck driven by a 38-year-old male from Khanh Hoa province was traveling on Thang Long Bridge from downtown Hanoi towards the outskirts. Upon reaching Phu Thuong ward, it collided head-on with another truck driven by a 35-year-old male from Phu Tho province, moving in the opposite direction. The cabins of both trucks were mangled, and both drivers sustained injuries and were trapped.

About 15 minutes later, the Fire and Rescue Police Team Area 3 and 4 dispatched vehicles and over 20 officers and soldiers to the scene. They used specialized hydraulic cutters to break open the doors and cabins, rescuing the victims.

By 6 AM that same day, authorities safely extricated both drivers and handed them over to medical personnel for emergency treatment at E Hospital.

The two trucks blocked nearly the entire bridge, causing a traffic jam. Traffic Police Team No. 6, in coordination with Phu Thuong Ward Police, inspected the scene. They reviewed and extracted dashcam and area surveillance footage to investigate the accident's cause, while also organizing remote traffic diversion to limit vehicles accessing the bridge.

Results of alcohol and drug tests for the two drivers are not yet available.

Thang Long Bridge spans the Red River, connecting Dong Ngac ward with Thien Loc commune. The bridge has two levels: the upper level features four lanes for automobiles and motorbikes, while the lower level is designated for non-motorized vehicles and railways.
