These 10 trends are predicted by Booking.com to shape the tourism industry in 2026, based on a survey of over 29,000 travelers from 33 countries, including Vietnam, combined with analysis from tourism experts.

Romantasy Retreats: Escaping reality, stepping into a fantasy world
The romantasy trend is influencing traveler behavior, with 94% of Vietnamese travelers open to visiting destinations that emulate castle or forest settings in this style.
Demand for immersive experiences is growing, with 81% of travelers interested in resorts linked to fantasy games, books, or films, and 33% affirming they will incorporate this type of travel into their future plans. Furthermore, 87% of users are open to AI suggestions, setting the stage for travel journeys where imagination and adventure take center stage.
Humanoid Homes: The future of vacation rentals
Travelers are increasingly drawn to stays in homes equipped with robots and smart automated systems that optimize water and energy use, as well as waste management.
The survey reveals that 98% of Vietnamese travelers are willing to book robot-equipped vacation rentals. Among them, 53% state that cleaning robots influence their booking decisions, 41% are enthusiastic about chef robots, and 35% are interested in robots that support sustainability efforts.
A significant 39% are attracted by the novelty, while 35% enjoy the experience and the chance to "show off" having stayed in a science-fiction-inspired space. Robot-equipped homes are expected to redefine the resort experience, moving towards enhanced comfort and distinctiveness.
Glow-cations: The trend of technology-driven specialized skincare travel
In 2026, wellness travel is projected to accelerate significantly, with 92% of Vietnamese travelers ready to book specialized beauty retreats offering personalized skincare therapies. An overwhelming 95% of Vietnamese travelers prioritize accommodations that optimize sleep through bio-lighting and relaxing sounds, which are crucial for skin recovery and rejuvenation.

Turbulence Test Travel: A trial for friendship, love, and teamwork
In 2026, vacations are anticipated to become "tests" of compatibility for relationships, with 85% of Vietnamese travelers willing to journey with someone they are getting to know, colleagues, or new friends.
Around 69% of participants consider remote locations to observe how their companions handle inconvenient situations. The trend of role reversal also appeals to 80% of travelers, where the usual planner hands over control to a travel companion or an introvert.
The survey notes that 68% of travelers are willing to experience trips with budget constraints or language barriers, and 85% choose to "step back" to see if their companions proactively prepare plans. These tests indicate a shift in travel perceptions, moving from pure relaxation to understanding adaptability and teamwork. Generation Z is the strongest proponent of this trend, with 88% willing to select trips that simulate real-life situations to assess their bond.
Shelf-ie Souvenirs: When kitchen shelves become cultural exhibitions
By 2026, kitchen cabinets are evolving into "cultural exhibitions" as travelers tend to bring back souvenirs that reflect the unique aesthetics and stories of each destination. According to the survey, 90% of Vietnamese travelers consider purchasing distinctively designed kitchenware or food containers, such as hand-painted spice jars or artisanal olive oil bottles, for both use and decoration. Notably, 84% of users are willing to choose travel destinations based on the reputation of local household products.
Around 33% of travelers indicate that these items help them recall trip memories whenever they cook. Meanwhile, 52% of participants appreciate the value of souvenirs in promoting local crafts, demonstrating sustainability, and honoring traditional skills. For 17% of travelers, destination choice also depends on opportunities to find rare gifts, limited edition cooking tools, or impressively designed packaging.
