Linh Huynh, from Ho Chi Minh City, shared her first encounter with Vang near the forest ranger station on 20/9. She was there to trek the approximately 12 km Lang Biang peak route. Upon reaching the summit, the dog playfully collected trash and interacted with her group as if they were old friends.
"It is a very dedicated guide, constantly stopping to wait for us", Linh said. She noted that Vang only left her group after leading them to the end of the trail. Following her Lang Biang trek, Linh shared her story on a Da Lat travel group, receiving thousands of likes and shares. Many other trekkers recounted similar experiences of being guided by Vang during their visits to Da Lat.

Nguyen Minh Phong, a Da Lat resident, frequently treks Lang Biang with a group of 6-7 friends and has often met Vang on the trail. Vang, estimated to be three to four years old, is known for its friendly demeanor and deep familiarity with the trekking routes. The dog often joins groups proactively when it sees trekkers. Phong recalled an instance when his group was still about two to three km from exiting the forest, and Vang appeared to lead them the rest of the way.
Trekkers often reward Vang with treats like boiled chicken eggs, sausages, or bread after each segment of the journey. Recognizing Vang as an integral and interesting part of the trekking experience, Phong created a Google Maps location named "Cau Vang Langbiang" to help tourists easily identify it. Although this location initially received many positive reviews, it was later removed due to a technical error with the application. Phong is currently recreating the location and awaiting Google's approval.

Local guides confirm that Vang is a pet belonging to residents living adjacent to the Lang Biang tourist area. Every morning, as groups of tourists prepare to trek, Vang often waits to guide them, regardless of the weather. While Vang is the most prominent, the Lang Biang trekking route also features other active "dog guides", including a notable black dog.
The Lang Biang trekking route is suitable for day trips or overnight camping, offering opportunities for cloud watching. Trekkers typically begin their journey from the tourist area, following a trail that winds through old pine forests and primary forests. While the path includes some steep sections, the diverse scenery and the cool climate of the Lam Vien plateau consistently attract visitors.
The period from November to April is ideal for trekking this route, thanks to favorable weather and beautiful forest scenery. First-time trekkers are advised to hire a local guide. For a day trip, it is best to start early in the morning, enjoy lunch at the summit, and begin the descent in the early afternoon.
Lang Biang, often called the "roof of Da Lat", boasts a highest peak of 2,167 m. It is situated in the Lac Duong area, approximately 15 km from Da Lat city center. The mountain range comprises three main peaks: Ra Da hill, Ong mountain, and Ba mountain. Ba mountain is the preferred destination for many trekkers.
