American tourist bows in gratitude to Hanoi restaurant owner

After enjoying a 12-dish lunch, a foreign visitor unexpectedly clasped her hands and bowed to Nguyen Anh Gia Thang, expressing profound appreciation for the delicious food.

The incident occurred at midday on 15/7 at Su Ming Porcelain and Tea restaurant on Pho Duc Chinh street, Ba Dinh ward. Two American tourists visited for lunch before heading to the airport. They ordered a 12-dish menu, including: grilled tiger prawns, pan-seared scallops, smoked pork, salt-cured salmon, and tuna.

Following the meal, the female tourist entered the interior of the restaurant, clasped her hands, bowed respectfully to the owner, and exclaimed, "The food is as delicious as in heaven,".

Nguyen Anh Gia Thang, the restaurant owner, stated that he was initially surprised but then felt proud of the customer's gesture. He had previously encountered foreign guests praising the food, but such a formal act of gratitude was a first.

According to the owner, the American guest was fully satisfied with all the dishes ordered, which led to her reaction.

Thang and his wife opened the restaurant three months ago, primarily serving fusion cuisine, which combines various culinary styles. Dish prices range from VND 79,000 to VND 129,000. The restaurant also offers special sets for solo diners or small groups of 2-4 guests.

Thang mentioned that professional chefs design the menu based on personal preferences. Currently, the restaurant has a steady stream of customers, with 80% being Vietnamese.

Before opening the restaurant, Thang worked in the high-end restaurant equipment business, which gave him frequent exposure to international clients.

"I am happy to share Vietnamese cuisine with international friends," Thang said.
