Con Dao named a top global sea turtle experience destination

Conde Nast Traveller magazine honors Con Dao as one of seven global destinations featuring impressive sea turtle conservation resorts, in celebration of Earth Day 2026.

To mark Earth Day 2026 on 22/4, US travel magazine Conde Nast Traveller released a list of 7 family-friendly resorts worldwide that offer exceptional sea turtle experiences. These destinations were selected based on criteria that include professional turtle care activities, collaboration with scientists, and the provision of highly educational experiences, all within a relaxing environment.

Six Senses Con Dao stands as the sole Vietnamese representative on this esteemed list. Conde Nast Traveller experts lauded the resort for its pristine white sand beaches and clear turquoise waters. Nestled amidst dunes along a crescent-shaped beach and enveloped by hills, the resort features 50 secluded villas, offering guests a tranquil escape.

The resort is also home to "Let's Get Cracking", a conservation center dedicated to endangered green sea turtles. Established in 2018 in partnership with Con Dao National Park, the center has successfully nurtured and released approximately 30,000 hatchlings into the ocean, boasting an impressive 82% hatching success rate.

Each year, from early March to October, the hotel's 2.7 km long beach transforms into a vital "nursery", where mother turtles return to lay their eggs in the sand.

For marine life enthusiasts, numerous eco-friendly hotels provide opportunities for guests to engage directly in sea turtle conservation efforts. These coastal resorts are equipped with protected turtle nesting areas and incubation centers. "Lights out" initiatives, which involve eliminating white light on beaches, are implemented to safeguard turtles during their most vulnerable stage. Staff diligently monitor conditions to help hatchlings survive and safely navigate to their natural environment.

Visitors to Con Dao can participate in the entire process: observing turtles lay eggs, assisting with egg incubation, and releasing hatchlings into the sea. They can also attend "Turtle Talks", discussion sessions led by a team of sustainability experts. These sessions offer attendees a deeper understanding of sea turtle biology, behavior, and the ongoing challenges in conserving these animals.

Other notable locations featured on the list include: Maroma, A Belmond Hotel and Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal (Mexico), The Ritz-Carlton (Florida, US), Turtle Beach Resort (Barbados), Mandarin Oriental (Saint Vincent & the Grenadines), and Four Seasons Resort & Residences (Rio Grande, Puerto Rico).

Founded in 1987, Conde Nast Traveller is a leading US travel publication and part of the Conde Nast media group. The magazine specializes in providing comprehensive information on global destinations, accommodations, and travel services. Annually, it publishes influential rankings based on expert and reader reviews, which significantly impact the choices of high-end clientele. Lists compiled by Conde Nast Traveller are frequently referenced by industry professionals to evaluate service quality and brand recognition within the international tourism sector.
