'Endless field' in Da Nang

During the dry season, from May to August, the rush grass field along the Truong Giang river becomes a rendezvous point for "photographers" thanks to its green, undulating carpets of grass under the sun.

Rush grass, scientifically known as Eleocharis and belonging to the Cyperaceae family, is a herbaceous plant commonly found in wetlands, riverbanks, swamps, and low-lying fields. The plant has a round, green stem and grows in clumps or spreads into wide carpets.

The rush grass field, located along Vo Chi Cong road (road 129) and adjacent to the Truong Giang river bank in Phuoc An village, Thang Truong commune, Da Nang, has become a favorite destination for many photographers every summer.

Photographers praise the area for its many beautiful angles, evoking an "endless field" imagery, and for being more accessible than many famous rush grass photography spots in the Southwestern region.

From May to August is when the rush grass is at its most vibrant green. Many photographers choose to visit from early morning or at sunset to "hunt" for photos, capturing the undulating green expanses under the sun.

Photographer Nguyen Khanh Vu Khoa, based in Ho Chi Minh City, captured an aerial view of the rush grass field on 30/6.

According to Khoa, in the early morning, when the sunlight slants and the wind blows across the grass, the entire field creates a ripple effect. This, combined with images of farmers leading buffaloes and cows, gives the scene a rustic charm characteristic of the central Vietnamese countryside. "This is one of the rare places that still retains its pristine scenery," Khoa stated.

To enhance the artistic quality of their works, photographers often hire local residents to wear conical hats and lead buffaloes or cows through the field. This seasonal work also helps many households earn additional income during the summer.

The area surrounding the rush grass field is where local residents cultivate crops. Visitors should follow designated paths and refrain from littering. If you wish to photograph buffaloes, cows, or people leading them, it is advisable to contact local residents beforehand.

From central Da Nang or Hoi An, visitors can depart early in the morning to witness the sunrise and take photos at the rush grass field. Afterward, they can combine this with a visit to Binh Minh beach, Tam Thanh mural village, or enjoy fresh seafood along the coast. The entire itinerary can be completed within a day.
