Lotus blooms flourish on the outskirts of Da Nang

Lotus flowers at Tra Ly pond bloom vibrantly in the morning sun, blending with a misty haze, attracting visitors to explore and take photos.

The Tra Ly lotus pond, located in Chanh Loc village, Duy Xuyen commune, about 30 km from Hoi An and Da Nang, is currently experiencing its peak blooming season. From may to august, the pond transforms into a sea of pink, attracting numerous visitors. This vast lotus cultivation, spanning over 40 ha with about 60 participating households, provides significant income for the local community while drawing tourists from nearby regions.

The Tra Ly pink lotus is known for its large blooms, measuring 15-20 cm in diameter when open. Its layered petals taper to a point, displaying a dark pink hue on the outside that gradually lightens towards the center. When fully open, the flower elegantly embraces a fresh yellow lotus seedpod.

Hundreds of visitors arrive daily to capture photos and enjoy the tranquil scenery. The ideal time for viewing and photography at Tra Ly pond is from 6 to 9h in the morning, when dew still adorns the flowers and leaves. According to local farmers, this year's favorable weather, a mix of sun and rain, has led to consistently beautiful, thick-petaled blooms that last longer. The flowers are at their most beautiful between 6-8h, before gradually closing as the sun rises.

The Tra Ly lotus pond is vast, but paths (pictured) crisscross each section, allowing visitors to easily move around and find ideal photo angles. Photographers highlight the pond's allure, attributing it to its expansive area, spanning tens of hectares, and its preserved natural beauty. Lotuses grow in large clusters at the foot of the mountains, interspersed with small paths and water, adding depth to photographs.

There is no entrance fee for visitors; however, those wishing to pick flowers for photos or purchase fresh lotus seeds as gifts must contact the pond owner. Many visitors arrive at the lotus pond from 5h to capture sunrise photos and avoid crowds. Ao dai and traditional costumes are the most popular attire choices for photography.

From Hoi An Ancient Town, visitors can reach Tra Ly lotus pond in about 40 minutes by oto or motorbike. The route involves following DT608 to Nam Phuoc, continuing on DT610 towards My Son Sanctuary, then turning onto the inter-commune road. The visit to Tra Ly can be combined with a trip to My Son Sanctuary on the same day.
