Sam Son beach packed with weekend visitors

Thousands of tourists flocked to Sam Son beach to cool off over the weekend as Northern and Central Vietnam experienced a heatwave with temperatures in many areas above 37 degrees Celsius.

From approximately 4:30 PM on june 6-7, all four swimming areas—A, B, C, and D—at Sam Son were notably crowded. The water and sandy areas were almost entirely filled with people. Despite the sudden surge in visitors, locals noted that the long beach and low tide in the late afternoon provided enough space for movement, preventing localized overcrowding.

However, the large crowds did deter some visitors. Hoang An, a tourist from Hanoi, stated that he stayed on beach B for 10 minutes before deciding to head ashore early to find a restaurant, finding the swimming space uncomfortable.

"I walked along the beach at 3 PM, and it was quite empty due to the intense sun, but just over an hour later, it was completely covered with people," An said.

Since early june 2026, a widespread heatwave has enveloped Northern and Central Vietnam, with temperatures in Hanoi and surrounding provinces consistently reaching 36-38 degrees Celsius. This sweltering weekend weather was the primary reason people flocked to coastal areas.

Many accommodation and seafood business owners in Sam Son observed that the weekend of june 6 and 7 recorded the highest number of visitors since the beginning of this summer season.

In 2026, Sam Son aims to welcome over 9 million visitors, with an anticipated total tourism revenue of 18,800 billion VND. To ensure service quality during peak periods, the locality has increased inspection teams and tightened controls on overcharging tourists.

To maintain service standards, the local authorities have intensified inspections and monitoring of business areas, reducing harassment and solicitation. Infrastructure, landscapes, lighting, signboards, and swimming areas have also been upgraded. A public hotline is available to receive visitor feedback, fostering an image of a civilized and friendly destination.

Sam Son beach is a traditional resort destination for tourists from Northern Vietnam, known for its wide beach and diverse services at various price points. The crescent-shaped beach stretches 9 km from the foot of Truong Le mountain to Quang Cu commune, spanning thousands of meters with flat, fine sand. Summer, from may to august each year, is the peak season, attracting millions of visitors for sightseeing and relaxation.
