Why you should run in Da Nang this summer

Da Nang is known as the "race-cation capital" for summer, thanks to its vibrant coastal routes, diverse services, and active running community.

Da Nang boasts routes stretching from the city center to the coast, offering runners constantly changing scenery and a rich sensory experience. Crossing bridges like the Tran Thi Ly, Tien Son, and Thuan Phuoc creates moderate elevation challenges, enough to add excitement without being overly strenuous.

At the end of July, the VnExpress Marathon, Da Nang's largest race, will be held, following a route that passes the city's iconic landmarks. For the 42km distance, runners will start on Phan Dang Luu Street, passing major roads such as Nui Thanh, Duy Tan, 2 Thang 9, Le Duan, Nguyen Tat Thanh, conquering the Thuan Phuoc Bridge, and continuing along the coast via Hoang Sa and Vo Nguyen Giap, finishing at Bien Dong Park.

"Da Nang's route isn't completely flat for easy personal records, but it's one of the most scenic, harmoniously blending urban areas, rivers, sea, and bridges. This is why I chose it as my summer destination, not just to conquer the distance but also to enjoy a true sports tourism experience," said Phu Dat, a runner from Hanoi.

Da Nang is not just for competition; it's a perfect place to enjoy a race-cation, combining running with a relaxing holiday. It offers open spaces, pleasant early morning weather, and well-developed tourism infrastructure.

July marks the peak tourist season in Da Nang, with streets bustling with food festivals and cultural events. "My family plans to run in Da Nang and then travel to Hoi An, enjoy seafood, and swim at the beach. That's why I chose this race instead of a more distant destination or one with fewer services," shared Le Hoai Phuong, a runner from Ho Chi Minh City.

From Da Nang, runners can easily travel to famous attractions like Hoi An Ancient Town, Son Tra Peninsula, Ba Na Hills, or simply relax for an extra day at My Khe Beach, repeatedly voted one of the most attractive beaches in the world.

"The refreshing morning air at My Khe Beach, the sunrise over the Dragon Bridge, and the cheers along Vo Nguyen Giap Street are why I always return to Da Nang each running season," shared Nguyen Tuan Dung, a 38-year-old runner from Hanoi, who registered for the VnExpress Marathon (VM) Da Nang for the second consecutive year.

Da Nang's growing running community contributes to the city's dynamic and modern image. This year, the VM Da Nang is expected to attract over 12,000 runners, creating a large-scale sports festival atmosphere. Among thousands starting simultaneously, each runner carries a unique goal: achieving a personal best, strengthening their will, or simply enjoying the journey of self-discovery.

Along with the unique route, Da Nang's service infrastructure is a significant advantage. The city boasts a diverse range of hotels and resorts, professional logistics services, from baggage check and chip timing to water stations and post-race recovery areas. The local running community, pacers, and experienced volunteers are ready to assist and share their expertise, offering a welcoming atmosphere even for first-time participants.

The VnExpress Marathon Da Nang 2025 is currently selling tickets in its Late phase, ending on 3/7. Prices range from 850,000 to 1,550,000 VND depending on the distance. Registrants during this period still receive the full race-kit, including a race shirt, finisher shirt, and medal, along with other benefits like free finish line photos, medical insurance, water, and fruit along the course.

A new feature this year is the adjusted finish line for the marathon (42km), moving from the Tien Son Sports Palace to a separate gate at Bien Dong Park, right by the sea. This change concludes the long run with a scenic ocean view, enhancing the finish line experience and allowing for a larger spectator crowd.
